A friend invited me on a hiking trip in the Adirondaks. He planned to practice photography with a new Fuji XT-5. I picked up a Yashica J7 and six rolls of film at a camera store in Buffalo, NY because it seemed like the fun thing to do.
The first hike of the trip was Rooster Comb mountain. I guess it’s a pretty small “mountain”, but as someone from the Midwest, I wouldn’t know.
We stopped for lunch at the top and wasted time trying to photograph some eagles. I didn’t get any eagle pics.
Hurricane Mountain
We took the Northern approach to Hurricane. It was very scenic, with lots of flowers and stuff.
I really like the way the colors came out on my flower picture, but I had trouble keeping the it in focus. Next time I’ll bring a tripod.
We made soup and coffee under the fire tower, and then I proceeded to burn through an entire roll of film trying to get pictures of Vermont. There was some haze in the air, but in retrospect I think we got really lucky with the lighting.
For dinner on our second day, we hiked to the top of Roaring Brook Falls.
The lighting on the waterfall was fantastic. It’s a shame all my cool rock pictures seem to be out of focus.
At the top we tried to get some neat ‘sun star’ pictures. I only had one turn out with a star.
Big Slide Mountain
We ascended Big Slide via the Three Brothers.
On the way up we got some nice views of Rooster Comb, which we had hiked earlier.
Most of the view on the way up was just more green, which was really cool to see but didn’t make for interesting photos.
We ate lunch and made coffee at the top, chatting with others who had made this their morning.
I really like the lighting and color on this, but man I wish I had a tripod.

I wish the rock was more clearly in focus!
